Alan Langworthy established and manages Powercorp, a world-leading and groundbreaking power systems engineering company whose technology is enabling remote communities to have city-quality power almost entirely from renewable sources. Over the last 22 years Powercorp’s application of research and innovation has seen it grow to become one of the most advanced high-penetration renewable energy companies in the world. The solar power technology Powercorp has installed in Australian communities is replacing diesel-generated power and saving thousands of litres of fossil fuel. In the early 1990s, Powercorp also pioneered high-penetration wind diesel systems that now power remote communities from Antarctica to the Azores.
This year Alan won a prestigious Clunies Ross Award. The awards recognise Australia’s pre-eminent scientists and technologists who have bridged the gap between research and the marketplace. Alan’s pioneering work has significantly impacted the global development of remote renewable energy.
